Considered as China's equivalent to Hollywood's Justin Bieber, the 25-year-old pop star got the notice of Hollywood after he started promoting Star Wars, appearing opposite Matt Damon in Zhang Yimou's The Great Wall.

According to Disney, Lu's job as the Star Wars "ambassador," is to serve as honorary member of the "Jedi Order" in China. He has since then appeared in local ads and promotional events. In fact, a special remix and music video for his forthcoming single "The Inner Force" has already seen him promoting the Force Awakens.

But Lu's popularity does not seem to appeal to everyone at all. He has since endured the backlash from netizens, particularly many of the older Star Wars fans in China, who are disappointed and angry with his Star Wars ambassador gig.

"Please pardon me saying so, but why did Disney choose such a sissy to act as a Jedi in the commercial trailer?" one netizen had to say in Sina Weibo.

"Give me back my Stars Wars!! Little Creamy Man (Lu Han) should just stay at home. You are incapable of handling the Force... That lightsaber doesn't suit you at all," wrote another netizen.

Nevertheless, the choice of Lu is a practical and seemingly profitable endeavor, given that a majority of moviegoers are in their 20s and 30s - the demographic who form a bulk of his fans.
