July 28th, Chen Mingming, a vice governor of Guizhou Province, reposted a micro blog about Florida shooting rampage with his Sina Weibo account, the Chinese microblogging service like twitter. Chen Mingming commented: "Why are those Chinese people who always abuse their motherland still in China? I strongly support that you guys should go to U.S. But before you go there, remember to have a cosmetic surgery so that they won't recognize you as a Chinese!" After a while, he added: "An unpatriotic person is a jerk. If those people feel sad because they are Chinese, they should go to America as soon as possible. Those Chinese are jerks and dregs of society!"
Soon, Chen Mingming's words are roundly criticized by thousands and tens of thousands of Chinese netizens. A netizen said: "Chen Mingming, as a vice governor of Guizhou Province, why are you such a idiot to humiliate Chinese like that?" Another netizen said: "I think we can investigate where the vice governor's family members are. Maybe they have already immigrated to America, with his huge amount of property!" Many Chinese netizens remind him to heed troubles in China instead of worrying about other countries.
As the vice-governor's inappropriate comments have caused a pernicious effect among Chinese Internet. Today, Chen Mingming issues a statement to explain his purpose to repost that news. Chen says he just wants to tell the public not to lambast the social problems in China all the time. The public should not ignore the progress of Chinese society either.
"My original intention is to say that any country will have some extreme cases. Those are unavoidable. But I didn't expect to cause such a harsh-word-war with netizens." Chen Mingming said.
"As a civil servant, posting blog isn't my major work. But I feel it's necessary for me to hear what netizens are talking about. This is helpful for my work. Since I started to use Sina Weibo two years ago, I have learned a lot from it. I think netizens criticize me not only because we have different opinions on this issue, but also because my words are inappropriate. I will accept everyone's suggestions humbly. And I beg for everyone's forgiveness."
