Art Gallery of Ontario to Open Alex Colville Exhibit

The Art Gallery of Ontario in Canada plans to arrange an exhibition for the works of renowned Canadian master painter Alex Colville, and has revealed a preview of the upcoming exhibit last August 19.

Alex Colville, widely known for his ability to immortalize mundane moments in everyday life by applying lingering and tense undertones in his work, will be honored by the Art Gallery of Ontario through an exhibition, following his death in July 2013. The master painter was 92 years old.

His works include the famous painting he called 'Horse and Train' and 'Target Pistol and Man'. More than 100 of his works, including that of paintings from museums and private collections which hasn't been viewed publicly, will be shown at the Toronto exhibition.

However, the curator, Andrew Hunter, cleared that though the show follows the death of the master painter's death, the exhibition wouldn't be a kind of memorial.

Andrew Hunter emphasized that the exhibit is to promote the advocate that Alex Colville is still a very significant artist and that his works are still very relevant.

The Art Gallery of Ontario plans to match Alex Colville's works of art with other modern pieces from pop culture which includes music, movies and comic books, too. The goal, according to the curator, is to let people see how Alex Colville's works have turned out over the years while making a connection to the works of Alice Munro and Wes Anderson.

Alex Colville's works were said to have been inspired by varying sources, including his Maritime roots to his time serving as the official war artist in World War II.

The Canadian artist has been honored as a Companion of the Order of Canada in the 1980s and has won an award in 2003 at the Governor General's Visual and Media Arts Award.

The exhibition is due to open on Saturday and will run through January 4 next year.
