German writer and satirist Christoph Rehage has sparked outrage in China after describing Chairman Mao Zedong as 'China's Hitler' in a Youtube video released in December.
A Communist party publication has since called for Rehage to face punishment under Chinese law. Rehage currently resides in his hometown in Germany.

Communist Youth Net, a website owned by the Communist Youth League, has already released three commentaries accusing Rehage of blasphemy, adding that he should be punished with the 'bright sword'.
Zhu Wei, the deputy director of the Communications Law Center at the China University, stated that Rehage's statement is perceived as 'subjective' and is definitely not a protected speech since Mao's political work has done more good than harm.
Zhu concluded that Rehage broke the law by releasing that statement.
In an interview, Zhu pointed out that people living near the country's borders can be held liable to Chinese law for their online speech. Rehage apparently violated a rule called the 'Seven Bottom Lines.'
These are Internet Speech rules created by Lu Wei, the director of the Cyberspace Administration in China in 2013.
Rehage said he found the aftermath of his statement bizarre.
"I was bewildered by the fact that they would first shut me out of the internet," said Rehage.
Rehage posted another video on YouTube, speaking in fluent Mandarin, inviting his critics for a debate in Germany.
