'Mr. Six' Dominates China's Box Office in New Year Week

(Photo : youtube.com) Feng Xiaogang's Mr Six dominated China's box office in the first week of 2016.

'Mr. Six', a domestic action thriller directed by Guan Hu, dominated the box office this week past after earning 440 million Yuan ($66.8 million).

The film, which stars famed director and Golden Horse Award winner Feng Xiaogang, was released on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24.

'Mr. Six' tells the story of a former Beijing crime boss, portrayed by Yi Feng Li, who swings back into the world of crime after his son is kidnapped by his former nemesis.

The movie enchanted audiences during the three-day New Year holiday. During those three days, it became the most popular choice in cinemas, earning a whopping 224.8 million Yuan (over $34 million) during those three-days.

Meanwhile, domestic thriller 'Detective Chinatown', a movie that tells the story of a man who travels to Bangkok to solve a murder case with his distant relative, made the number two spot, pulling in 399 million Yuan (over $60 million) after it opened on Dec. 31. The film is the second big-screen production for Actor - Director Chen Sicheng and actors Wang Baoqiang, Liu Haoran and Tong Liya. 

'Mojin: The Lost Legend', a domestic action-fantasy about the love triangle of fictional tomb explorer Hu Bayi, his fiancee Shirley and his former girlfriend that he had thought was dead, landed in on the third spot with 340 million Yuan (over $51 million) after it opened on Dec. 18.

Fourth place went to 'Devil and Angel', a domestic comedy about a unscrupulous troublemaker who suffers from erectyle dysfunction and his guardian angel who helps him realize that love and sex cannot be forced, made 126 million Yuan (over $19 million) after its Dec. 24 release.
