Lenovo's Chief Technology Officer Peter Hortensius has revealed that the company is closely monitoring the virtual and augmented reality markets. HoloLens of Microsoft has not hit the market yet, but Lenovo's idea to create a virtual-reality headset competitor is not at all far-fetched.
According to IDG News Service, Hortensius stated in an interview that the concept of virtual reality is already becoming popular. Virtual objects are superimposed on top of the physical world using a headset similar to HoloLens. Virtual reality and augmented reality are going to be big, and the company wants to be a part of the fast-growing market.

Lenovo is working closely with Microsoft since HoloLens is giving a good view on where the augmented reality market is headed. Hortensius has not given any specifics about how the company would be developing and releasing the augmented reality hardware. Developing a headset would not be an issue for the company since Lenovo is whipping up innovations at a fast pace.
Another option that Lenovo is looking at is to license Microsoft's proprietary HoloLens technology that is supported with Windows 10 as a platform for the augmented reality. Similar to PCs, mobile devices and TVs in the past, the company can bring out homegrown devices if the market dictates it.
Research laboratories that Lenovo invested a lot in has helped to advance laptop and server technologies. At the CES last week, Lenovo showed some of its key innovations in tablets, laptops, and screens. Augmented reality has many uses not only for cool visual and gaming experiences but also in commercial applications specifically in training and troubleshooting.
The company will continue to add more new features to its computing devices. Hortensius mentioned that wireless charging would take a while to reach PCs.
