Ex-President George W. Bush Takes On Ice Bucket Challenge

Ice Bucket Challenge

Former United States President George W Bush took the ALS Ice Bucket challenge Tuesday, with former first lady Laura Bush doing the honors, and then challenged Bill Clinton to do the next challenge.

A video was posted on YouTube of how Laura Bush doused him with a pail of ice-cold water while the couple was in Kennebunkport, Maine. The video was also posted on Bush's Facebook page.

Apparently, in the video, the former president, who served from 2001 to 2009, was getting ready to just write a check instead of being doused.

"To you all that challenged me, I do not think it's presidential for me to be splashed with ice water," Mr Bush said. "I'm simply going to write you a check."

But then Mrs. Bush appears and pours a pail of icy cold water over Bush's head. The former president let out a loud "oww" but otherwise sat it out until the pail was empty and he was soaking wet.

"That check is from me, I don't wanna ruin my hairstyle," Laura Bush said, bucket in hand.

He did give the check to the motor neuron charity ALS Foundation, with Laura's consent.

"Now it's my privilege to challenge my friend Bill Clinton to the ALS challenge," he said. "Yesterday was Bill's birthday and my gift to Bill is a bucket of cold water."

Bill Clinton has yet to respond to the challenge.

On its YouTube account, ALS posted this message: "Thanks to Jenna Bush Hager, Rory McIlroy, Woody Johnson, and Coach Jim Harbaugh for the #IceBucketChallenge - and to Laura W. Bush for the check. Next up: President Bill Clinton. Help #StrikeOutALS at www.alsa.org."

It was Bush's daughter Jenna Hager who challenged his father.

Other famous personalities like film director Steven Spielberg, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates, and TV host Oprah Winfrey have all been doused with icy water to help raise money for the ALS Foundation.
