China's setter Qiuyue Wei wasn't able to play in the finals due to an ankle injury she sustained during their match against South Korea last week. Na Wang replaced her, moving the ball well as China took charge of the remaining two sets to win the match.
China coach Jenny Lang Ping was exceptionally pleased with her team's performance, "I think all our team played well," she said.
Brazil was upset by Turkey in the second match, 25-18, 25-23, 21-25, 19-25, 15-12.
Turkey completely surprised Brazil by playing aggressively in the beginning of their matchup taking the first two sets.
The defending champions Brazil got back in the third set when Tandara Caixeta substituted for veteran Fernanda Rodrigues who seems to be having a bad day.
Caixeta quickly converted for Brazil, taking the third set and using that momentum to grab the fourth set as well.
Turkey was just better defensively, showing that in the deciding set as they gave Brazil's first lost in the tournament.
Team captain Gozde Sonsirma was top scorer for Turkey with 23 points with 22 coming from attacks while Caixeta is the top scorer of Brazil with 20 points.
Host nation Japan and Russia was the main event of the day as Tatiana Kosheleva led the Russians early in the first set, converting numerous attack points.
Japan, with home court advantage quickly turned things around in the second set as team captain Saori Kimura, Risa Shinnabe and Miyu Nagaoka combined for a total of 44 points to win the next three sets to take the match 22-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-17.
China and Turkey are tied in first place with three points after the first round of play, Brazil is at third with two points and Russia with a point.
China plays Brazil next and the faceoff promises to be a spectacular match.
