Jack had reportedly been depressed since his girlfriend died two years ago from heart failure. Sam told the local media that he did not notice anything unusual about his brother's behavior. The two were even discussing Taiwan Taste on Tuesday night.
"I am utterly heartbroken at the sudden passing of such a wonderful human being, my incredible brother Jack. My family and I want to thank everyone for their overwhelming love and support and respectfully ask for privace in these difficult times," Sam said in a statement.
A preliminary investigation showed that Jack had written notes on his smartphone, saying how miserable he felt after his girlfriend died.
"Although we dated for one year and 11 days, I will love her forever," Jack said in a previous interview.
It is likely that Jack contacted several friends before commiting suicide. Miko of pop duo By2 shared an Instagram post full of regret that she did not see Jack's messages minutes before his death.
Miko shared a screen capture on Instagram of Jack's text messages. The post, which has since been deleted, showed that at 4:42 am, Jack said "Are you here?" and followed by "Miko" after a minute. At 4:50 am, Jack said, "Forget it. Everything. Take care."
"Got your text this morning. It was too late when I saw it. I still couldn't believe it's true. My dear Jack, if only I was there when you needed me," Miko wrote.
Jack is known for his bubbly and outgoing personality, which adds to the public's shock on the tragic news.
