Ultrafast Internet Access from AT&T is Coming to Cupertino

Ultrafast internet service is coming to Cupertino, California.

AT&T has just announced the expansion of its internet GigaPower service to Cupertino, Google's home court.

The company will bring the GigaPower all-fiber network to local homes and businesses in the city. I GigaPower offers symmetrical upload and download broadband speeds of up to one gigabit per second (1 Gbps).

The service will be available some time in 2015.

Cupertino is the very first city west of the Rockies to experience downloading 25 songs in one second, one TV show in less than three seconds or even an HD movie for less than 36 seconds.

Clients could also receive access to AT&T's TV services that include a DVR with 1 TB of internal storage and the ability to record and watch five HD streams simultaneously.

GigaPower is also being offered in the Texan cities of Austin, Fort Worth and Dallas. AT&T also plans to launch its fiber network in about 100 cities with San Jose, Mountain View and Campbell being considered.

It also listed 21 new metropolitan areas such as Atlanta, Charlotte, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami and more for the introduction of GigaPower.

AT&T is one of the companies pushing to install gigabit internet in businesses and homes across the country.

Its competitor, Google, also built a gigabit network in Kansas City and Provo, Utah. Austin, Texas is now under development.

The GigaPower service started in Austin nine months ago. It charges US$70 a month for the basic GigaPower network access.

AT&T's GigaPower bundle in Austin includes Internet, landline phone service and a 200 channel U-Verse TV service at US$150 per month.

The Dallas-based company didn't disclose how much it costs to have GigaPower in Cupertino.
