Chinese authorities have prevented the release of Marvel's Deadpool movie in the country due to its offensive content.
While fans around the world are excited for the release of Deadpool in theaters, China's media regulatory body has banned the release of 20th Century Fox's superhero movie due to the fact that it contains violence, graphic language and nudity, according to Chinese state media.

The ban was issued by the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT), the body responsible for censoring movies imported into the country. The SAPPRFT gives the verdict on whether a film is suitable for China's viewers of all ages.
Deadpool has been received with much enthusiasm in other countries, despite being given an “R” rating due to the titular character's foul-mouthed and pansexual nature.
Although Chinese censor authorities can work with Hollywood studios to take out the offensive content from R-rated movies, it is almost impossible to do that to this movie without damaging the plot.
This situation will cause quite a disappointment for Fox, according to The Guardian. China is contributing a large amount to global box-office figures, and has now become the world's second-largest movie market.
Other Marvel movies have made it big in China. Guardians of the Galaxy grossed $96.4 million USD, Avengers: Age of Ultron garnered $240 million USD last summer, and “Ant-Man” had $105.4 million USD.
Other movies also earned large amounts in China. Fast & Furious 7, for example, made $390 million USD in China last year, garnering over $30 million more compared to its U.S. revenue.
Observers, however, predict that Deadpool will still be able to penetrate the Chinese market even though it has been officially banned. That's what happened to Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, which was spread inside China through piracy.
Deadpool, which stars Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, T.J. Miller and Brianna Hildebrand, is directed by Tim Miller. It revolves around the story of Wade Wilson, a former Special Forces operative who became a mercenary, and received accelerated healing after an experiment that disfigured him.
Deadpool premieres in North America on February 12.
