Torrey Hunt, a neighbor of the ex-wife, told police that he heard knocks on his door at three in the morning, and upon opening it, actually witnessed Simpson stabbing the man on the chin and chest.
Detective Adam DeBoer said Simpson's ex-wife locked herself in the bathroom until Simpson left.
Simpson was recently jailed for assaulting his ex-wife in February and currently on probation. He is said to have a long history of involvement in domestic violence.
Simpson has been questioned by police and is facing charges of attempted murder and first degree home invasion.
His stabbing victim, on the other hand, has been released from hospital after receiving dozens of stitches for his wounds.
Hudson has yet to comment on the incident involving her half-brother.
In 2008, Hudson's mother, brother and nephew were murdered by her brother-in-law, William Balfour. Balfour was sentenced to three life terms without parole.
