National Museum of China Opens Online Shop

National Museum of China ventures the online market

(Photo : YouTube Screenshot) The National Museum of China is expanding its market and venturing into the Internet to sell products like porcelain tea sets, stationery and Spring Festival red envelopes.

China's National Museum is combining technology and tradition as it launched its online shop on Monday to widen its market for cultural products.

The museum's main online store is based on Tianmao, one of the leading suppliers in China under the Alibaba Group. According to museum employees, the online shop will feature themed products and will also exhibit limited, seasonal items during holidays and festivals.

It will also display special cultural products inspired by the Spring Festival such as Spring Festival red envelopes, porcelain tea sets, and stationery. Advertising for a series of products themed on "Hi, China's Remote Past," "The Smell of Bronze" and "Embrace Spring Festival by Talking and Singing" will also be featured soon.

Many Chinese museums are venturing into the online market to increase the patronage of cultural products. The first to take this step was the Beijing's Palace Museum, which launched its online store in October 2010 and rolled out a variety of creative products that delighted the public.

The National Museum of China the product of a merger between the National Museum of Chinese History and the National Museum of Chinese Revolution. It was founded in February 2003 and is currently situated at the east side of Tiananmen Square. It caters not only the exemplary civilization achievements from China, but also from different parts of the globe. 

Between March 2007 and December 2010, the museum underwent a major facelift, expanding its territory up to 192,000 square meters, making it the largest museum in the world, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities.
