About 21 people trapped in the rubble have been successfully pulled out by a rescue team. Once rescued, they were immediately sent to the hospital. More than 1,000 inhabitants in the vicinity were also evacuated to safer areas for safety concerns.
The impact of the explosion destroyed some adjacent houses and was heard over the region.
Yan Xiangao, the head of Guangfeng District, said it is fortunate that the plant is a long way from any neighborhood, and that most specialists were not at the plant at the time of the blast.
The reason for the impact is still unknown, however, it is reportedly under investigation.
The plant reportedly has a production permit. However, officials from the plant have been detained by the police as part of the probe.
Guangfeng has had a tradition of creating fireworks, a tradition that goes back about 300 years/
A base camp has been set up for those whose homes were destroyed by the explosion ahead of the approaching freezing cold. Jiangxi is expected to see the coldest climate since the year 1992 between Jan. 23 and 26, with temperatures in bumpy regions conjecture to dive to less 13 degrees Celsius.
