Tony Shalhoub has just signed up to join the next season of the Showtime hit series "Nurse Jackie".

"Nurse Jackie" is scheduled to return on air next year.

Shalhoub will have a recurring role in season seven playing the kind-hearted Dr. Bernard Prince.

Dr. Bernard Prince is the new ER doctor, who, aside from being great with patients, has a special bond with his boss, Gloria Akalitus. The role of Gloria Akalitus is played by Anna Deavere Smith. His kindness also extends to Jackie, paving the way for a friendship to develop between the two.

"Nurse Jackie" is led by Edie Falco who plays the titular role. Other actors in the cast include Merritt Wever, Paul Schulze, Ruby Jerins, Mackenzie Aladjem and Peter Facinelli.

The showrunner and executive producer of "Nurse Jackie" is Clyde Phillips, with Tom Straw, Richie Jackson, Liz Flahive and Caryn Mandabach also serving as executive producers.

Shalhoub is famed for his three-time Emmy winning role in the now-defunct detective series "Monk". Shalhoub took on the titular role of Adrian Monk, a paranoid and obsessive-compulsive detective who has the innate ability to pick out clues no one is able to.

The 60-year old actor also took home the Golden Globe award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy in 2003 for his role in "Monk".

Aside from his work in Monk, Shalhoub has also appeared on the big screen in movies such as "Spy Kids," "Men in Black," "The Siege" and "Galaxy Quest".

The Emmy winner's voice also recently graced the big screen when he lent his vocals to the character of Splinter in the reboot of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles".

Shalhoub is married to actress Brooke Adams. The two starred in the 2010 Broadway revival of "Lend Me a Tenor".
