A six-year-old boy, who miraculously survived a 60 meter fall from a tall building, only made one request to his family when he regained consciousness – to play with his grandfather's smartphone.

The young boy, known as Jie jie, fell down from a window located on the 18th storey of the building where he and his family lived, reports the South China Morning Post. He reportedly fell down after his grandfather left him with his younger brother, as the elder needed to run an unexpected errand on Jan. 8.

The grandfather, 48-year-old Guo Yiguo, returned half an hour later and found Jie Jie's younger brother alone, sitting on the floor and crying. The younger brother then told him that Jie Jie went out to look for him.

Guo found the young boy lying unconsciously on a flower bed, located at the foot of the residential building in Dazhu county, Sichuan province.

The young boy was quickly brought to Chongqing Medical University Hospital, and was treated for the injuries he sustained from the fall, which included severe spinal injuries, broken ribs, and lung contusion. He was also initially paralyzed from his chest down.

Qin Jiaqiang, Jie Jie's doctor, said the operation which lasted five hours was successful. After 10 days of observation, the boy was discharged from the intensive care unit and transferred to a recovery unit after doctors deemed him safe from danger.

Guo told the Chongqing Commercial Daily that when he and the boy's mother went to the ward, Jie jie was already conscious. He called both of them and made his request to Guo.

“[He] was also looking for me and for the phone to play games,” the grandfather said.

The Daily Mail reported that the game Jie Jie wanted so desperately to play was titled “Xiao Xiao Le,” a game involving cute animal images.

The doctor said that the shrubs and soil found in the flower bed helped soften the young boy's fall, adding that he landed on the ground leg first, which explains his few head injuries.

“Luckily he fell into the flower bed,” grandpa Guo said. “The branches of the shrubs were as thick as fingers, and the soil was very soft, which both acted as good buffers for him when he fell. Otherwise I would not be able to see him ever again.”
