July 30th, according to informed sources, Apple CEO Tim Cook is recently in China. Earlier today Tim Cook met with senior leaders of China Telecom Corporation secretly. So far, the topic of the meeting has not been revealed.
According to forecasting, the secret meeting may be similar with the previous meetings between Cook and senior leaders of China Telecom Corporation. They may focus on strategies for the future and as well as the issues on cooperation and sales of the new generation of iPhone.
Some Chinese industry analysts say the reason Tim Cook visits China is to bolster relationships between Apple and its partner carriers China Telecom. It means China Telecom may take a lead in selling the new generation of iPhone.
This is the third time for Cook to visit China since he became Apple's CEO. It is estimated in the next few days Tim Cook will meet senior leaders of China Unicom Corporation and China Mobile Corporation.
Based on Apple's Q3 financial report, Apple's sales were $4.64 billion, down 14% over last year and down 43% comparing with Q2 2013 in Greater China region. There is a sign that Apple maybe has to face challenges to hold on its dominant position in Chinese market.
Tim Cook expressed on a previous teleconference that it was still unclear why there was a decline in sales of Greater China region. Chinese market is a huge opportunity for Apple. Apple plans to double the number of retail stores in China in the next two years, in order to increase the sales of iPhone and iPad. Meanwhile, Apple will guarantee the high quality of its products.
According to industry analysts, the main purpose for Cook to visit China is to look for solutions to reverse its declining sales.
At present, China is Apple's second largest market only after the United States. Around 13% of Apple's 2013 revenue comes from Chinese market.
