With the goal of competing with Apple Inc for revenue, Chinese smartphone maker Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd has taken another leap and will reportedly unveil its first personal computer in February.
Huawei is allegedly working with Intel Corp on a PC that is set to roll out next month, according to yicai.com on Monday. There are no specific details yet as to what kind of device will be released.

According to a Huawei insider, during the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, in February, Huawei will launch one tablet device. The insider stressed the issue of confidentiality over the matter and cited that an announcement "might" be released with regard to its PC venture during the event. However, according to the insider, so far, a solid decision has not been made yet.
Despite having difficulties with its profits, Nicole Peng the research director of Canalys China, thinks that Huawei could opt to compete in the market. Peng warned that the company needs to withstand possible challenges on their PC as well as tablet venture, citing that even Apple is experiencing sluggish sales. She added that instead of solely relying on its current retail network, Huawei also needs to leverage business-to-business channels to market its PCs.
According to a report by the International Data Corp, a consulting agency, in the fourth quarter of 2015, nearly 72 million PC units were shipped globally - representing more than 10 percent year-on-year decline. The decreasing demand as well as fluctuations in currency are said to have negatively affected PC shipments in 2015.
Maciek Gornicki, Asia Pacific research manager for client devices at IDC, revealed that the market will likely stay difficult in 2016 "as the current gloomy economic outlook with uncertainty in the financial markets in China affecting multiple countries will weigh on IT spending in the near future."
Apple's consumer units cover a variety of products ranging from smartphones to laptops and PCs, while Huawei is primarily focused on mobile devices.
