Giant Mushroom Found in China:It weighs 33 pounds

The monstrous mushroom is now the topic of interest to the residents of Jianshui County. The huge mushroom weighs more than 15 kilograms and is a meter in diameter. The giant fungus in now out on display by the finder, as the BBC reported. 

This province have over 600 species of mushrooms and some of which are from a rare find. This is the reason why the province is called the Kingdom of Mushrooms.

Mushroom are classified under the family of fungi. It has an entirely different characteristics from the mammals and plants. They do have plant characteristics but their way of survival is close to that of animals.

China is one of the countries that provides mushroom supply all over the world. In fact, they are the biggest exporter of mushrooms with a $10 billion market share. The most expensive mushroom they export is called the Tricholoma Matsutake, which is recognized as a delicacy in Japan.

The specie of the mushroom is still unverified, and there is no information whether it is safe to consume. However, the size of the fungus created an interest to the locals. It steers much interest that it became a subject of many conversations, especially in the social media websites.

The giant fungus was measured at an approximate 935 hectares in size, with an estimated age of 2,400 years old. Experts say that it has been growing underground for many centuries.

One woman said, "I guess this mushroom can be entered into the Guiness World Records."

The mushroom may be one of the biggest finds in terms of the size of the specie, but it has to be compared with the current Guiness Records of the World's largest mushroom found in Oregon in the year 1998. However, it can fill-up many hungry tummies with several servings of these, if made into a delicacy.
