The Shanghai coach took to Twitter to welcome his latest signing.
"We welcome our new player Fredy Guarin to Shanghai Shenhua, who joins with enthusiasm and desire," Gregorio Manzano tweeted.
The news was later confirmed by 'The Blue Devils' (Shanghai Shenhua club's nickname) through the outfit's official Weibo account. The club said the deal was successfully closed after Gaurin passed a medical exam in Spain, where the team is undertaking pre-season training.
The details of the contract that was signed by Guarin was not disclosed. However, according to Italian football daily Sky Sports, Inter Milan will receive 13 million euros for the former Porto midfielder, who was deemed a surplus by Roberto Mancini.
Guarin started his career with Columbian professional football club Envigado. He had a short spell in Argentina and played with Saint-Etienne in France for two years.
He gained fame with FC Porto in Portugal, where he won ten major titles in the four seasons with the club, including three national championships and the 2011 Europa League.
Guarin was also part of the Colombian national team that competed in the 2011 Copa America and at the 2014 World Cup.
Under the Italian coach Roberto Mancini, 29-year-old Guarin had made 16 appearances this season for the San Siro-based club. But his place in the side's starting line-up may have been lost after the team signed Marcelo Brozovic and Geoffrey Kondogbia.
Shanghai Greenland Shenhua is a Chinese professional football club that competes in the country's top premier league. The club finished sixth in the 2014-15 season of the Chinese super League.
