The show is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. NBC TV will broadcast it live from downtown LA's Nokia Theater. More than 600 million people were expected to watch the show worldwide.
Primetime Emmys will pay special tribute to actor Robin Williams, according to executive producer Don Mischer. Longtime Williams buddy Billy Crystal will host a "proper and meaningful remembrance," addressing the impact Williams had on everybody's lives, Mischer said. Sara Bareilles will provide a musical tribute.
Pre-Emmy and post-Emmy shows will be wall-to-wall on various networks and online. Those around Los Angeles may want to go to one, or more, of more than a dozen Emmy-related parties.
TV watchers, amateur and expert alike, were looking toward some surprises and some changing of the guard-type moments. "Breaking Bad" is in its last year of competition. "True Detective" is getting a lot of buzz as possible victor over the bad folk in this year's best drama series category.
"Orange is the New Black" on Netflix, looks strong in the comedy series category where "Modern Family" has held sway. Jim Parsons of "The Big Bang Theory" is heavy favorite to win the lead actor, comedy category. Many of the other major categories aren't so cut and dried.
Lead actors and actresses categories feature some down-to-the-wire races. Taylor Schilling of "Orange is the New Black" and Julia Louis-Dreyfus of "Veep" appear to be co-favorites in lead actress, comedy category.
Matthew McConaughey of "True Detective" is favored over Bryan Cranston of "Breaking Bad" for lead actor, drama. Jon Voight for "Ray Donavan" appears to be a favorite for supporting actor, drama in a close call over Josh Charles for "The Good Wife."
