"Threshold" is the codename given to Windows 9. The new OS is set to bring major changes in terms of design and features as compared to Windows 8.
Windows 9 will bring back the Start Menu (not available on Windows 8) and an enhancement of some elements in the modern user interface (UI).
Windows apps will run within a window on the Desktop.
There are also some reports Microsoft will remove the Charm bar.
The Charm bar is the central toolbar in Windows 8. It can be accessed from the desktop view of Windows 8 or the Windows 8 start screen, as well as on any app used in Windows 8.
The voice assistant on Windows Phone, Cortana, is expected to be integrated on Windows 9.
Microsoft also mentioned they intend to have a much more rapid update cycle for Windows software just like in Windows Phone mobile software.
