The cheapest ultraportable laptop in the Lenovo's range is the Lenovo IdeaPad 100S-11IBY ($299 as tested). It is built for those who need to accomplish basic work on the go.
Although it is an all-plastic build laptop, it feels metallic to touch, giving it a more expensive impression. It measures 0.68 by 11.4 by 7.9 inches and weighs just 2.29 pounds. Its keyboard is not backlit and feels nice to type on. Its body feels pretty sturdy for a lightweight system with strong hinge. Its chiclet keys are slightly smaller than the normal that is expected from a laptop this size. Its trackpad is working well but is not multitouch. It does not have the red Lenovo pointing stick that is found on Lenovo's ThinkPads.

It has an Intel Atom Z3735F CPU running at 1.3 GHz that puts this laptop in the netbook category. The WiFi functionality only comes in 802.11 b, g, and n flavors, but Bluetooth 4.0 is provided. Its 11.6 inch display has a 1366 x 768 TN LED display with a matte finish that helps reduce glare. Its connectivity options consist of two USB 2.0 ports, a 2-in-1 microSD or MMC card reader, HDMI port, and 3.5 mm headphone or microphone combo jack.
Its lightweight but solid design makes it more ideal to bring along when commuting. Its extra-long battery life keeps the user working throughout the day. It features a 32-bit Windows 10 operating system and an Atom processor to keep it from completing more substantial tasks. It also features a bright-red lid and bottom with black in the middle.
It has 32GB of eMMC flash storage with about 25GB free is not that exactly generous but is not too far off from other systems in this range, scoring 1399 points on the PCMark 8 Work Conventional test and 1174 points on the 3DMark Cloud Gate test. Lenovo covers Ideapad 100S with a one-year warranty.
