Lu has worked for years, 1993 to 2009, in Tianyang Food Company in Hebei province. He made use of a syringe to let the insecticides penetrate deep within the dumplings because he was frustrated over his wages and co-workers.
As per the report, the contaminated dumplings have a substance called methamidophos, which is very toxic to humans. One of the issues being settled is whether the contamination occured in their territory. The trial will be on the second day of the visit of Japanese Vice Foreign Minister, Akitaka Saiki to China. This is amidst the tension that was being resolved in the group of island located in East China Sea.
Lu was arrested and charged of a case. Lu pleaded forgiveness to the families of the victims. He said that his actions were not intended, and he did not realized the big impact it caused to Japan. He is hoping that the court would still permit him a more lenient case.
As per Lu's lawyer, he is so cooperative witht the authorities and had shown deep remorse for what he did. Authorities did not find any previous case file against him and that should be taken into account.
This food issue has added tensions in the dipomatic relations of Japan and China. Recently, a heightened argument of territorial rights have brought tension to the two countries, as the East China Sea is being debated. Still, prime minister Shinzue Abe takes action to improve the relation as he calls for "unconditional, frank dialogue" between the two countries.
The advise of stated that there could be a leader's summit in the "not-too-distant future." Despite this, China government did not give an interest on the possibility of a summit.
