British No. 1 and current world No. 28 Johanna Konta has pulled out of Great Britain's Fed Cup team due to intestinal problem.

According to ESPN, Konta gave a statement on the Lawn Tennis Association website saying, "After having consulted with two doctors, my coach, physio and the LTA, unfortunately I will have to withdraw from the upcoming Fed Cup in Israel."

The Briton stated the she was advised by the doctors that playing in the said tournament would jeopardize an ongoing intestinal issue that worsened in the recent Australian Open.

"This comes as a big disappointment to me and I regret not being able to play. I have represented GB every time I have been asked to and fully intend to play again given the opportunity in the future." Konta said.

Konta was due to line up in Israel next week together with British No.2 Heather Watson for the singles event, however due to her health concern the Melbourne-based Grand Slam semifinalist is now out of contention.

In the recent development, Katie Swan has been selected to replace Konta as one of Great Britain's singles representatives for the Fed Cup, according to BBC.

Swann, 16, was a finalist in the 2015 Australian Open junior final where she lost to Tereza Mihalikova of Slovakia.

Great Britain meets South Africa and Georgia in Pool B, with the winners advancing to a play-off tie on Saturday.

Konta rose to fame at the recently concluded Australian Open. She had a sensational upset victory against the former world No.1 Venus Williams of the United States in the opening round of the tournament.

Her winning-run continued until she reached the semifinals and faced the eventual winner German Angelique Kerber. Konta made history by becoming the first British female player since Jo Durie in 1983 to make the last four of a grand slam.
