Google's Voice Search Becomes Multilingual for Android Users

Google's search app has just gone multilingual on Android.

In the past, Android users had to switch back and forth between language settings when using Google search. But now, Google's just announced that users can choose five languages out of the 50 available when using voice search.

The new system automatically recognizes different spoken languages without the hassle of shifting settings every time.

What this means is users can seamlessly search for a hotel in English, ask for the local time in Spanish, ask for movie schedules in Italian and, dictate notes in Japanese.

Currently, the new update is only available for voice search.

Android users can use this new Google search feature by downloading the newest version of the app (version 3.6) on Google Play.

Once the new version is downloaded, getting the feature to work only requires changing the language settings once.

Instructions are as follows: Go to the Settings menu, then to Search & Now -> Voice -> Languages. After you select "Languages", choose which ones you want Google voice search to understand.

Press longer for the language you want to set as the primary options and tap on the rest to set them up as your secondary languages.

A number of languages are also available in various dialects.

For example, Spanish has different versions that include Spanish spoken in Spain, Mexico and El Salvado. On the other hand, for Chinese, three versions of Mandarin and a version of Cantonese are available.

Generated results are displayed in the language the command or question was asked. The system is flawed at times when it comes to fulfilling this promise.

Also, Google said users may lose certain functions such as "OK Google" when switching the primary language to other languages.

Google promises to add more languages in the future.
