NBA News: Karl-Anthony Towns and Kristaps Porzingis Bag Rookies of the Month for Third Consecutive Time

Minnesota Timberwolves' Karl-Anthony Towns and New York Knicks' Kristaps Porzingis have been chosen as Kia NBA Rookies of the Month for the Western Conference and Eastern Conference, respectively, for games played in January. Each player is earning the honor for the third consecutive month.

The two sensational rookies have snared the monthly NBA award, which started with games played in late October and November last year.

According to the NBA's official website, the 2015 NBA draft 4th overall pick Porzingis ranked fourth among all rookies, scoring averaging 15.3 points per game and registered second-best in rebounding with 7.2 boards per outing in January.

The 2.21 meters forward-center Porzingis and the 2.13 meters forward-center Towns are tied in the blocked shots department posting an average of 1.63 shot blocks per game.

The Latvian basketball player paced the East's rookies in the three-point marker area having a field goal percentage of 37.5. He scored at least 12 points in 13 straight games from Jan. 3-26.

Porzingis played a double-double game performance for four separate occasions, including his 28 points and 11 rebounds production in their 100-99 loss to the Western Conference powerhouse San Antonio Spurs on Jan. 8.

Towns, the 2015 NBA draft 1st overall pick,  is the only first-year player to average a double-double in the month of January. He is the third among all rookies in scoring with 16.9 points per contest and he led all the rookies in rebounding with 10.9 rebounds per game.

The former University of Kentucky Wildcats star shoots 53.5 percent from the field and 87.2 percent accurate from the foul line.

Towns, who was a Gatorade National Player of the Year in 2014, recorded six doubles-doubles and averaged 22.7 points and 12.6 rebounds in the final seven games of the month. He finished with 27 points, 17 rebounds and six shot blocks in their 106-94 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on January 20.
