Max Schrems, an Austrian law student, has filed a class action suit against Facebook for supposed privacy violations.

Schrems said he's already garnered the support of 60,000 Facebook users and the lawsuit has already passed the first legal review.

The limit for the suit is 60,000 individuals, a number Schrems was able to fulfill earlier this month. All users involved in the lawsuit are from outside the United States.

Schrems is seeking US$16 million in damages, with users collecting US$663 each.

Schrems accuses Facebook of aiding  the U.S. National Security Agency in obtaining personal information about its users.

Aside from Facebook's shady dealings with the NSA, Schrems and his fellow plaintiffs also accuse the social networking site of sharing their data with third-party apps and tracking their activities on other websites through the use of the "like" button.

They also believe Facebook's graph search feature is a violation of its users' privacy.

Because of the lawsuit, the Vienna Regional Court ordered Facebook Ireland to respond to Schrem's accusations. Facebook Ireland manages the tech company's international operations.

The majority of users who joined Schrems' lawsuit signed up through his campaign site, www.fbclaim.com.

Facebook has yet to comment on the class action suit.

This is not the first time Schrems has led a campaign against the social media network.

In 2012, he also organized a campaign in which users flooded Facebook with messages in the thousands, asking the company to be transparent about how it uses and protects the personal information of its users.

Because of Schrems' demand and the support he gained from so many, Facebook was forced to allow its users to vote on changes to its privacy policy.
