English Premier League giants Manchester United FC has reportedly made a staggering £144.4 million bid for the services of world football superstar Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior, or simply Neymar, according to the player's father.

The Seleção captain's father, Neymar Sr., who is also Neymar Jr.'s agent, recently admitted that the Old Trafford residents have thrown the huge offer to their way last summer, but they have decided not to accept it yet.

"He (Neymar) has still two years left on his contract but you can all be calm as my son is so happy here," Neymar Sr. told reporters when asked about his son's response to the massive offer.

The elder Neymar mentioned the bid in court as reference to the tax evasion case his son is currently involved in, but he did not name the club from where the offer came until just recently.

However, Caught Offside reported that "the move could go ahead over the summer". Even though the Red Devils did not attempt to resubmit the bid during the recently closed January transfer window, van Gaal's interest in the 23-year-old Brazilian international reportedly has not waned.

Reporters initially speculated that the hundred-million-dollar offer was from Barça's rival Real Madrid until the dad disclosed that it was England's United who came up to them.

Neymar placed third behind Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in the 2015 FIFA Ballon d'Or race. So far this season, he has appeared in 28 games for Barça, scoring 21 goals and assisting 12 times.

The Mogi das Cruzes, Brazil native was signed by Barcelona in June 2013 for what was ultimately reported to be £71.5 million. His transfer from Santos to Barça was investigated then because of inconsistencies in the documents submitted to local football authorities.

Daily Mail Online noted that Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal has always been open about his desire to bring in "a creative star" to Old Trafford this summer and that the club is said to be preparing the funds to pull off such types of signings.

Other big-name football superstars linked to Man United are Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez, Barça's Luis Suarez, and Los Blancos' James Rodriguez, Gareth Bale, and Cristiano Ronaldo.
