Ouya gets a second chance at life.

Video game company Ouya will soon make its games available on Xiaomi's streaming boxes and smart TVs.

Xiaomi, the Chinese smartphone maker, recently struck a deal with Ouya. Although details of the partnership have yet to be fully divulged, it seems Ouya will be getting a dedicated channel on devices created by Xiaomi.

In China, Xiaomi has already surpassed Samsung and Apple as the nation's biggest smartphone maker. Aside from smartphones, the company is also branching out to create other tech products, including smart TVs and streaming boxes.

"For the likes of Xiaomi's MiTV, its set-top boxes and other Android set-top boxes that are entering the market, this could be a turning point... in bringing great content and developers to gamers and into a region that they have never had access to before," said Ouya Chief Executive Julie Uhrman.

Unlike games on Apple or Android devices, those that have been developed for Ouya are created to work on TV sets that have controllers, much like the Xbox.

Currently, Ouya and Xiaomi are discussing the best marketing strategies and titles to be added to Ouya's channel.

Ouya and Xiaomi will share revenues gained from their partnership.

The partnership comes after Ouya's decision to take its business overseas. With its campaign entitled "Ouya Everywhere," the company is attempting to jump start its hold on the international gaming market.

Santa Monica, California-based Ouya, which was launched in 2012 via Kickstart, came guns ablazing into the gaming arena with its US$99 console. Since then, the company has sought the help of thousands of developers to create games for its app store.

However, app store sales have been weak. So the company hopes its Asian launch may help it gain a market foothold.

Aside from Xioami, Ouya revealed it has also partnered with Wikipad. Wikipad sells tablets made specifically for video games.
