Self-build Rocket Made By University Students Launched Successfully

(the team were preparing for launch)

At 2p.m. on July 29th, a rocket launched and soared up into the air, leaving a foggy tail behind. Its "manufacturers", a group of university students have been working on the project for nearly two years.

Hu Zhenyu, a student who studied in Guangzhou, arrived at Shenyang on July 26th with his team of more than twenty people. All of them are the amateurs of rockets. They were divided into four groups and worked on the civil air defense issues, and other members assembled the rocket and debugged the launcher. The launching time was set at 2p.m. on July 29th. Everything was ready. They stayed in three different observation points. Hu was the No.0 commander, and directed the process behind the cover, which was 30 meters away from the launcher. The rocked was lighted and the fuel was burning. The motor was running and reached to the full operational status soon after the lighting, pushing the rocked within a second. The rocked climbed up to 4,000 meters and went beyond the vision. Five minutes after the launching, the rocket contacted the ground warning system. Hu and his partners searched the estimate area and found the head of the rocked, and its structure was not destroyed.

They have been waiting for the day for more than half a year. In the earlier January of this year, the rocket "KCSA-TOP" was completed in a lab of South China University of Technology. "All the data was perfect, but we can do nothing without the launching permit." The studio was about 30 square meters, and he was proud of the rocket which was 2,767 mm in length, 50 kg in weight, armed with GPS/SINS, and was able to send the real-time data back to the ground.  "If we succeed in launching the rocket it would be the most advanced rocket among rocket amateurs." They conducted the simulative launching in the computer several times and practical launching underground. Before the first official launching test, they were stopped suddenly. The funding of the project ended in April this year, and the team was dismissed in June. After that, Hu was responsible for all the work, including looking for funding and preparing the technical tests.

Although they finally completed the launching, it is not officially approved by associated government departments. There are no such legislations in this area so far, and it is the main reason that they fail to get the permission. They said they went to Mongolia because it was the only place where there were no flights within 150 square kilometer.
