After former Stone Temple Pilots member Scott Weiland denied that he was incarcerated, TMZ has finally admitted that the story was false and that it was an impersonator that was jailed in an alleged theft and meth possession case last July 26.

Earlier, Weiland took to his Facebook account and assured the public he wasn't incarcerated and had nothing to do with the case that TMZ was reporting.

The former Stone Temple Pilots member even had to post a video of himself to show he wasn't in jail, saying the news was a lie and that everything was alright with him.

Realizing its error, TMZ has admitted that the reports were false and that Scott Weiland was in fact free. TMZ says it had to call police repeatedly until the cops said that the man they've arrested was not the musician but someone else using his name.

As it turns out, the one who was arrested was an impersonator - 44-year old Jason Michael Hurley. The man was said to have identified himself as Scott Weiland upon arrest. Later on, he was proven to be someone else.

It took a month before the police found out that the person in their custody wasn't Weiland. Talk about sloppy police work - or maybe excitement - but they did claim later that Hurley had fooled them for that long and made them confirm to media that they had the former Temple Stone Pilot member in custody.

Police are now adding charges to Hurley for giving false information to authorities. It is not know what Weiland wants to do with police, and TMZ.
