China is witnessing an average growth of more than 30 percent in its film industry every year, which means that the Chinese film industry is most likely to become the biggest film consumer in the world by the year 2018.

The Chinese box office totals reached a surprising 44.06 billion Yuan ($6.7 billion) in the year 2015 alone. That staggering amount is 48.7 percent higher than the box office total in 2014. Meanwhile, the US Box office faced a 5 percent drop in sales last year, earning a total of $10.4 billion.

The main force behind most of the recent ticket sales in China is reported to be people under the age of 25. During the holiday period alone, the 90s generation contributed more than 70 percent of the ticket sales in the country.

Richard Gelfond, CEO of IMAX, recently spoke to the media and was asked about the new high in the Chinese film industry, which he answered by saying, "China is likely going to surpass the United States and become the biggest film market in the world and at the rate the Chinese film industry is currently going, I think they'll reach that within the next two years or less."

In addition to possibly being the biggest film industry in the world, movie theatres have been appearing all over the China. In 2015 alone, more than 8,035 new cinema screens were installed which makes the current movie screen count in China, 31,627 screens.
