Xi Jinping stressed that building China into a maritime power is an important part for the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
Xi Jinping said: "We love peace and will remain on a path of peaceful development, but that doesn't mean giving up our rights, especially involving the nation's core interests."
China will never abandon the principles of shelving disputes and carrying out joint development for maritime areas over which China owns legitimate rights. Furthermore, China will promote beneficial and friendly cooperation with other countries.
Developed marine economy is an important factor to build China into a maritime power. China should increase marine development capabilities, expand development fields and let marine economy become a new economic point of growth. Xi said.
Xi Jinping mentioned the importance of protecting the marine environment. Chinese government should make great efforts to achieve remarkable improvement in the marina ecological environment. Relevant authorities should make sure the public can eat safe seafood, and can enjoy clean seas and clear skies. The problem of marine pollution should be effectively controlled. And an ecological compensation mechanism to protect marine environment should be established as soon as possible. Marine environmental protection will be given the same priority as marine exploration.
China should develop maritime science and technology. And China should convert the recent maritime science and technology into an new and innovative type of technology. Relevant authorities should try their best to make breakthroughs in major marina fields. And these authorities should promote the development of key technologies that are essential for marine economic restructuring. Xi Jinping said.
