Developing Story: Mine Collapse Kills 20 in Shanxi Province

A mining zone of the Xiahaizi Coal Mine was flooded while 26 miners were working at 4:50 am. Only four miners managed to escape, 22 coal miners were trapped underground.
A mine in Shanxi Province collapsed on Wednesday night, killing at least 19 workers, state media Xinhua reported.
The roof of Anping Coal Mine in Shuozhou City caved in on Wednesday night at 10:10 pm, according to the mine's owner Shanxi Datong Coal Mine Group.
Police said that a large part of the coal mine's roof caved in, prompting a dust storm inside the cave.

A total of 129 workers were underground at the time of the incident, with 110 miners escaping.
The company's senior manager told AFP last year that they are increasing coal production to compensate the dwindling prices.
A search and rescue operation is already underway.
