"We're a piece that Google X doesn't necessarily have," Gagne said.

The terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but it was announced that four Gecko employees, along with Gecko Design President Jacques Gagne, will be joining Google's research lab, "X", in September.

Gecko's president said his company's expertise lies in turning ideas into reality, especially those that are the pioneer in the industry, "That's what attracted Google X," Gagne said

According to Gagne, Gecko began working with Google X in 2013 on a confidential project. Google X was impressed with Gecko's output and an acquisition deal was considered by the end of 2013.

Acquisition talks began in 2014, but the deal wasn't immediately established.

"I was stubborn because I have had this business for years," Gagne said.

Google X reportedly acquired Gecko to help the research lab in developing innovative products, such as Google Glass, a wearable computer, Iris, a contact lens with glucose measuring ability, and Loon, balloons capable of providing internet to distant locations.

Gecko is a California-based company founded in 1996, which manufactures electronic products.

Clients of Gecko include Logitech, Hewlett-Packard, and Sonos Inc..

Gecko helped the project "One Laptop per Child" achieve fruition. The company designed laptops that cost approximately US$100 each, but has the durability of other high-end laptops.
