It's simply going to get worse.

"Game of Thrones" author George R.R. Martin just made a murderous promise - the body count in his story will rise as the plot moves closer to its ending. Martin shared the revelation during an event in London last Tuesday.

However he shared that there are some important characters that he wants to kill off but can't because he needs them to tell the entire story. "Sometimes there's only one character who's my eye in a particular location, and if I kill that character, everything going on in that particular subplot is going to be lost," he shared.

Unfortunately with more interactions to occur between characters in the near future, some might not be around for long.

Martin shared that the way he structured his books was that everyone was together in the beginning, but went their separate ways. As their stories come to a close, characters find a way to each other again, a reunion that will mean the end for some.

"The viewpoint characters are meeting up with each other and being in the same point at the same time ... which gives me a lot more flexibility for killing people," Martin added.

Martin's admission doesn't come as a surprise, especially after indiscriminate killings in "Song of Ice and Fire" left many fans devastated over their favorite characters' demise.

Nevertheless, fans were eager for certain characters to reunite and interact again in "Winds of Winter". However, with Martin's admission about the progress of the story, fans are better off preparing themselves to be heartbroken again.

Martin isn't writing for season five of the TV adaptation, but he will still serve as an executive producer.

According to the highly acclaimed author, "It takes me about three weeks to a month to write a script, and with all the pressure to finish and deliver The Winds of Winter, I decided my time was better spent finishing the book than taking off three weeks to a month to get a script done."
