Tim Cahill, who was left without a club after Shanghai Shenhua terminated his contract last week, has signed a contract with another Chinese Super League Club - Hangzhou Greentown. The contract is very short term, reportedly only for 5 months.

Cahill confirmed the news of his new contract via his personal Instagram account.

"Thank you to Hangzhou Greentown Football Club for this amazing opportunity," he wrote. "The future now is clear, I want to put all my energy into Hangzhou Greentown Football Club and the Socceroos."

Cahill's agent Ante Alilovic last week said that many top Chinese clubs are eagerly interested in signing the former Everton star. His relatively successful stint at Shanghai Shenhua, in which he scored 11 goals in 28 appearances, has made the 36 years old socceroos player a highly valuable asset in the transfer market, Alilovic said.

Cahill's consistent form prompted Shanghai Shenhua to offer him a contract extension last year. However, Cahill found himself out of favor with coach Gregorio Manzano's new attacking strategy, eventually leading to termination of his contract last week.

Speculations were rife that Cahill may return to Australia to play for an A league club. However, an ugly war of words with Football Federation Australia (FFA) last week destroyed his chances of returning back to Australia.

Cahill is likely to debut for Hangzhou Greentown in first week for March, when the next Chinese Super League season kicks off. Hangzhou Greentown is slated to take on Changchun Yatai in the opening match for both clubs.
