An American journalist who was abducted in Turkey in October 2012 has been freed in Syria, according to a report by Qatar-based Al Jazeera television.
Peter Theo Curtis, who hails from Boston, Massachussets, was reported to have been freed Sunday, but the circumstances of the release were sketchy.

In late June, Al Jazeera showed a video on its newscast showing Curtis dishevelled with long hair and beard, but otherwise looking healthy. The TV network did not say where it got the video, where Curtis was reading obviously from a prepared script saying he was being treated well and "had everything.
Curtis was abducted by unidentified men on October 26, 2012 in Antakya, Turkey, while preparing to enter Syria. It was not known if he ever ended up in Syria, although the report said he was freed inside Syria.
Curtis was released jjust days after another American journalist, James Foley, was murdered by an Islamic State executioner who is being described as possible a British national fighting for the IS in Syria.
Graphic video of the beheading was circulated on the internet, with the executioner saying the execution was revenge for U.S. air strikes on Islamic State targets.
The IS warned the U.S. that another journalist would be executed if the U.S. did not stop the airstrikes.
Since the Syrian civil war started in March 2011, several journalists have been abducted, including a few other Americans. Many of them are still missing.
