After triumphing at the Oscars - roping in three awards - including a maiden Oscar for Leonardo DiCaprio - 'The Revenant' has another good news to cheer about.
According to Hollywood Reporter, the movie is all set for wide release in China in March, but not without lots of editing. Chinese authorities reportedly have problems with many violent scenes in the movie, which are likely to be chopped off from the movie.

The movie's official release date is still not yet fixed, but reports suggest that 'The Revenant' will hit the Chinese market on Friday, March 18.
If 'The Revenant' does get released on the speculated date, it will be unprecedented for an American movie, as in recent years the weekend spots have been mostly reserved for local movies.
Interestingly, the Alejandro González Iñárritu directed movie was partially financed by Chinese money. Two Chinese firms - Guangdong Alpha Animation and Culture Company - reportedly put undisclosed amounts in the production of the movie. Both firms are involved in manufacturing toys and offering animation services.
'The Revenant' is a dark movie that deals with man's struggle in American wilderness. Although Chinese audience are not used to watching dark movies, the presence of Leonardo DiCaprio should bolster movie's acceptance at Chinese box office. DiCaprio has enjoyed a huge fan following across China since the release of the global block buster' Titanic.'
Before 'The Revenant', the last high profile American movie that was released in the Chinese market was 'Kung Fu Panda 3'. The animation movie achieved a milestone this week by becoming China's highest grossing animated film ever, grossing 975 million Yuan ($149M) since its release on January 28 across China.
Being second largest market in the world, American studios are not leaving any stone unturned to make a dent in lucrative Chinese market. Many analysts claim that in the coming years, China is sure to overtake America to become the largest movie market in the world.
