Speculations abound that Boston made an aggressive move to snag Jimmy Butler from Chicago during this year's trade deadline, but the Bulls reportedly "quickly turned down" the Celtics in their bid for the two-time NBA All-Star shooting guard.

CBS Sports reported that the Celtics prepared a "strong move" to try and get Butler from the Bulls, offering an unnamed player and two 2016 first-round draft picks for the 26-year-old wingman, citing Boston Herald's Steve Bullpett as the source.

Even when Boston offered two picks, the unprotected pick from Brooklyn and the 1-through-7 protected from Dallas, Chicago felt that the offer is still of "lowball" type, which allegedly made the deal fall through.

The report said that "it isn't surprising that Chicago quickly turned down the Celtics" as Butler is a proven performer for the Bulls, an All-Star, and is considered as "one of the best shooting guards in the league".

Chicago is also set to make Butler the new face of the franchise and will reportedly rebuild the team around him as big men Pau Gasol and Joakim Noah become unrestricted free agents this summer and rumors of Derrick Rose being traded this offseason have surfaced.

Boston, who is currently on a four-game winning streak and at third place in the Eastern Conference with a 37-25 slate, has been rumored to targeting several superstars before the trade deadline, namely Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard, Kevin Love, and even Philadelphia rookie Jahlil Okafor.

The recent rumors about Butler just prove that team president Danny Ainge is still on a look out for a bonafide superstar to lead the Celtics going forward as it is perhaps the only thing lacking for Boston to become an elite team in the East or possibly in the whole league.

Bleacher Report noted that the Celtics are actually concerned about getting so many draft picks this summer, which may be the reason why they are willing to part with a few of them to snag their much-desired superstar.

Boston has a total of eight picks in the 2016 draft as of the moment, four in the first round and another four in the second, with two in the initial round protected.
