Eastern Conference No. 1 team Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the visiting Boston Celtics with a 120-103 victory as LeBron James surpassed Tim Duncan of the San Antonio Spurs on the NBA's career scoring list at the Quicken Loans Arena on Saturday night.

James, who went 11 for 20 from the field while playing for 36 minutes, also grabbed 11 rebounds for another double-double performance, along with 8 assists, 2 steals and 1 blocked shot. This is the Cavaliers' 27th victory in 32 games played at home this season.

The four-time NBA MVP has 26,378 points transcending Duncan's 26,366 points. James will need 18 points at least to beat the 13th on the list John Havlicek, who has 26,395 points.

Kyrie Irving scored 20 points including 3 for 6 from beyond the arc and Iman Shumpert registered a double-double production of 12 points and a career-high 16 boards for Cleveland.

With the win, the Cavs moved three victories ahead of the Toronto Raptors, who currently have 41 triumphs in 60 matches. The Cavs now have the best record in the Eastern Conference.

All-Star guard Isaiah Thomas scored 27 and starting forward Jared Sullinger posted a double-double game performance of 17 points and 13 rebounds for the Celtics, who shot just 37 for 80 from the field and had a team-combined 17 assists during the game.

The Celtics started hot, but cooled off and trailed by one point at half time 55-54. The Cavaliers managed to limit Boston's point production to just 49 points, while they made 65 points in the second half of the match.

"We were making shots at a rate that was really good, but you're probably not going to sustain that for a whole game," Boston Celtics head coach Brad Stevens said. "It's a long game. This is a good team. We knew we were going to have to play a lot better than last time to win the game. We did it for a quarter instead of for four."
