Chongqing Lifan FC (1-0-0, 3 points) pulled off their first win of the 2016 Chinese Super League season by defeating five straight domestic champion squad Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao FC (0-1-0, 0 points), 2-1, in the two team's season opener at the Chongqing Olympic Sports Center in Chongqing, China on Sunday.

It was a huge upset for Chang Woe-ryong's men as the Southern China Tigers enter the new season as the heavy favorite to win it all again for the sixth straight time following their big-time acquisition of Colombian striker Jackson Martinez from Atletico Madrid during the recently closed Chinese winter transfer window.
Chongqing's Brazilian winger Fernando Henrique da Conceição pulled off a brace in the match, at the 32nd and 74th-minute marks respectively, en route to the stunning upset victory, as per Shanghai Daily.
Guangzhou's €42 million-man Martinez scored his debut goal for head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari at the 52nd minute to slightly ease off the disappointment by the two-time AFC Champions League winners and its legions of fans.
A recent CSL preview from The Guardian said that "the reigning champions, Guangzhou Evergrande, are the team to beat" even with the departure of forward Robinho to Brazilian Serie A team Atlético Mineiro and striker Elkeson, who now plays for local rival Shanghai SIPG.
In their place is Martinez, who played three seasons with Porto, appearing in 132 games and scoring 92 times with the Portuguese side, and a year with Atleti, playing 22 games and scoring three goals with the La Liga giants.
Aside from Martinez, Evergrande also has "Asia's top defender", South Korea's Kim Young-gwon, and most of the Chinese national team players, which makes them the strongest CSL club on paper at the moment.
After winning the 2016 Chinese FA Super Cup, which is equivalent to England's Community Shield, with two goals from resident winger Ricardo Goulart, Guangzhou dropped two games in the 2016 AFC Champions League group stage.
They lost their ACL opener to the Pohang Steelers and then their second match to Sydney FC. To cap off the squad's worst opening in a season, they now lost their season opener against an unheralded team Lifan, who placed eighth in the CSL last season.
