The upcoming movie My New Sassy Girl, which is expected to hit theatres in China by April 22, will talk about love that is "blind, risky and unpredictable."

The movie is a remake of a popular comedy series that made waves 15 years ago. The project, which is the result of a collaboration between China and South Korea, will see the return of Cha Tae-hyun to reprise his role as the lead actor - described as a "tolerant boyfriend."

However, South Korean actress Jun Ji-hyun will not be joining Cha in the new film. Rather, Chinese model-actress Song Qian will play the title role, Cha's new love interest.

Song is better known as the 29-year-old leader of the South Korean girl group f(x), Victoria.

The plot of My New Sassy Girl "re-creates the spirit of the 2001 classic: A man endures the abuse of his girlfriend," according to China Daily.

Furthermore, it was disclosed as well that the lead stars will tie the knot the moment they meet again, after years of being away from each other.

In the meantime, South Korean veteran director Jo Geun-shik has revealed that the remake of My Sassy Girl will feature more "Chinese elements" as compared to its predecessor.

According to him, "The narrative will follow Gyun-woo, portrayed by Cha, who falls in love with a new sassy girl."

Apart from Cha and Song, Japanese-American actress Mina Fujii and South Korean actor Jin-ho Choi will also be part of the upcoming movie.
