5. Chiang Kai-Shek old military headquarters

When Chongqing was the capital of China during the WWII, Chiang Kai-Shek established his military headquarters up in the mountains above Chongqing. As a result the Japanese bombers never found it, and it is now a museum, preserved as it was during the war. There are many buildings in the beautiful compound and visitors can see his work room with the motto over his desk "all officials must serve the people", his bedroom, and his meeting room, and sit in his chair where he negotiated with the American advisers, with his American educated wife usually to his left.

6. Soong May-ling's Former Residence

Soong May-ling was a First Lady of the Republic of China (ROC), the wife of Generalissimo and President Chiang Kai-shek. Soong May-ling met Chiang Kai-shek in 1920. Since Chiang Kai-shek was eleven years older than May-ling, already married, and a Buddhist, May-ling's mother vehemently opposed the marriage between the two, but finally agreed after Chiang showed proof of his divorce and promised to convert to Christianity. They married in Shanghai on December 1st, 1927. But the couple never had any children.
