Fort Lee Shooting; Army Soldier Barricades Herself in Suicide Attempt

An Army female soldier barricaded herself inside an office building located at the Fort Lee U.S. Army base on Monday, in which reports say she shot herself to death in an apparent suicide attempt.
When Fort Lee authorities responded to alerts of a potential shooter on base, they came across the female Army soldier barricaded in the confinements of an office. She began to furiously throw objects when respondents intervened trying to talk the soldier out of the situation, and eventually turned the weapon upon herself and pulled the trigger.

The soldier reportedly shot herself one time in the head, initially surviving the incident, but later died while being treated at the Commonwealth University Medical Center.
The female soldier, whose name has yet been released, was a sergeant 1st class 14-year Army veteran, according to officials. It's currently unknown whether the soldier had suffered from any mental health issues, but the Army said it's set to begin an investigation.
The U.S. Army Fort Lee sent out a message via Twitter around 9:30 a.m. describing an "active shooter" situation, ensuring all personnel to take protocols immediately.
With a population of over 34,000, Fort Lee is the Army's third-largest military training site. Circumstances could have been much worse considering the building the soldier barricaded herself in was estimated to have over 1,100 people in lockdown.
This isn't the only shooting on a military base in recent news. Just a few months ago, a soldier opened fire wounding 16 people while killing three before turning the weapon on himself at Fort Hood located in Killeen, Texas.
Ironically, Fort Hood is also the military base that held the tragic 2009 mass murder, which is now considered to be the deadliest military-related shooting in U.S. history. 13 people were killed and more than 30 were injured on that day.
