(Photo : Youtube Screengrab) Huang An has been lambasted by Taiwan pro-independence activists for depending on the island's health insurance plan to cover the cost of an expensive heart surgery.
Huang An, a Taiwanese singer based in China, has come under fire for having a heart surgery that cost Taiwanese taxpayers thousands of dollars.
Huang is an advocate for the reunification of Taiwan with mainland China. The singer has described himself as the 'Taiwan Independence Buster' and has chastised other celebrities publicly - particularly those opposed to the reunification of the island with mainland China.

Huang has been residing in China for more than 15 years.
According to Strait Times, the singer returned to Taiwan last week Thursday via a charter flight for an intensive eight-hour heart operation. The cost of the surgical procedure is approximately $800,000 TW ($24,000 USD)
The medical expenses will be covered under Taiwan's universal healthcare system.
Huang's surgery sparked outrage among the Taiwanese citizens.
Huang Wei-che, member of the Democratic People's Party (DPP), said that Huang should not trust the healthcare program of his homeland due to the fact that he took advantage of the universal health insurance despite siding with China.
This incident has sparked a debate on social media. Some critics have already petitioned the government to place tighter rules on the national health insurance.
A citizen lambasted Huang on the social media page of Apple Daily, stating that the singer should have gone back to China and spared Taiwan the cost of his medical expenses.
Huang made waves last January for publishing an online video of young K-Pop singer Chou Tzu-yu waving a Taiwanese flag. Chou later apologized for the incident afterwards.
China is one of the biggest markets for Korean music, but in Taiwan, the anger was directed more towards Huang.
Aside from a music career, Huang is a television host and a writer. He moved to Beijing in the late 1990s after his entertainment career dwindled in Taiwan.
