Zootopia has good chances of overtaking Kung Fu Panda 3 (which has grossed $152M till date) to become the highest grossing animated flick in China. It has already surpassed Kung Fu Panda 3's record of  the 'highest single-day gross ever' by an animated movie, raking in $25 million dollar last Saturday.

Zootopia's emphatic run on China's box office has surprised many given that there was little marketing before the movie's release. Not to mention that the Disney animation flick faced tough competition from IP man 3, which released two days before Zootopia.

Film critics say Zootopia's success is largely driven by 'mouth of word'. People are said to have been impressed by the great story, memorable characters and high quality animation in the movie. These factors more or less have contributed to the movie's success in other international markets like France, Russia and Korea.

Zootopia is also raking in moolah in the U.S. box office. The movie has grossed $142.6m in the United States after just two weekends. Kung Fu Panda 3 could manage to rake in only $69.3 million during the same period.

Zootopia's release in China will be followed by other highly anticipated Hollywood movies including Oscar winner The Revenant and Batman V and Superman: Dawn Of Justice.
