U.S. government under President Obama is already laying the foundation of the possible air campaign against the Islamic extremists both in Iraq and in Syria.

On Monday, a senior administration officer said that U.S. President Barack Obama has approved flight surveillance over Syria to prepare for air attacks on different areas.

The Syrian government warned the U.S. about the air campaign on their territory, but Washington countered stating that they need not wait for Assad's approval in order to defend American lives.

Before the news about the possible US air strikes, Obama refused to intervene in the Syrian civil war that has killed a 190, 000 individuals, according to the United Nations.

The most recent occurrence is the beheading of an American freelance journalist, James Foley, who was held captive by Islamic groups.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest said they need to confront the threat in a sustainable manner, even adding that Obama made no decision on military action to Syria.

The issue of whether or not the US should take action is proof that Syria is trying to test the Obama administration.

In Damascus, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem told reporters that their government is getting ready to cooperate with any side -- which includes the US - or any regional or international group that aims to end the Islamic State Group.

He also told reporters that any military attack within Syria's area should be decided together with the Syrian government.

"Any strike which is not coordinated with the government will be considered as aggression," al-Moallem said.

The Syrian government even threatened to strike down any US aircraft that is in their airspace, and defense officials said that they can launch attacks on Syria from neighboring countries like Iraq.
