After losing the first set, Venus Williams thwarted the attempts of Kimiko Date-Krumm and a bee of not making it into the second round in the opening day of the U.S. Open on Monday.
The 43-year-old Date-Krumm had an amazing run in the first set as she broke Williams twice to take the set easily in 34 minutes.

But the seven-time Grand Slam champion staged a comeback in the second set even though a bee was pestering her during her serve.
The bee first came to Date-Krumm while she was serving. She tried to dodge the insect instead of swatting it with her racket but it went away on its own. Date-Krumm eventually held serve and the ball is on Williams' side.
The bee was back and now it was pestering Williams while she serves.
"Make it go away," Williams said to a couple of ball boys.
Williams eventually made the bee land on her racket until the ball boys were able to capture the bee with a towel.
After the ruckus, the 34-year-old Williams came back with a vengeance, winning the second set and continuing that momentum into the third set to send Date-Krumm away just like the bee, 2-6 6-3, 6-3.
Williams is now the oldest female tennis player left in the tournament, who happens to be a change for her after being called the "younger" player.
"Definitely I was younger today," a smiling Williams said. "But when you step out on the court, I don't think anybody thinks about age."
Williams had a remarkable performance in Montreal, defeating her sister Serena at the semis but eventually losing to Rogers Cup winner Agnieszka Radwanska.
"I was feeling better this summer and I had some better results," Williams added.
Williams is set to battle it out with Time Bacsinszky in the second round and if she progresses even further, she may have a chance to prove herself against second seed Simona Halep in the fourth round.
